Description

Zinc stearate (CAS 557-05-1) is a zinc soap derived from stearic acid, supplied as a white powder under trade names including Metallac, Dermarone, Aqua Zinc, and Antidust 2. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29157020. The molecular formula is C18H36O2·1/2Zn.

In plastics processing, zinc stearate functions as a heat stabilizer and internal lubricant, reducing friction between polymer chains and metal surfaces during extrusion. In rubber compounding, it acts as a mold release agent by forming a low-adhesion boundary layer at the mold interface. Personal care formulators use it as an emulsifier and slip agent in pressed powders and creams.

Zinc stearate is available in standard powder grade and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Procurement teams should confirm technical or cosmetic-grade specifications depending on end application. Packaging is typically supplied in 25 kg bags or bulk containers.
