Quaternium-80

Quaternium-80 (CAS 134737-05-6), commercially available as Silquat Q 100 and Abil-Quat 3272, is a silicone-based quaternary ammonium compound used in personal care and industrial formulations.

It combines conditioning, emulsification, and surface-active properties into a single ingredient, reducing the need for multiple additives in complex formulations. In hair care, it deposits onto negatively charged hair fibers.

This action delivers detangling, softness, and frizz control in conditioners, shampoos, and leave-in treatments. Skin care formulators use it as an emulsifier and moisturizing agent in various creams and lotions.

It supports stable oil-in-water systems with a smooth skin feel. In textile processing, it functions as a softening and antistatic agent applied during finishing, improving fabric handle and reducing static buildup.

Leather treatment formulations also incorporate it to condition and uniformly coat surfaces during processing. The material is supplied as a viscous liquid, typically in neat form or as a diluted solution.
