Description

Sodium laureth-2 sulfate (CAS 3088-31-1), also known commercially as Tergentol, is an ethoxylated anionic surfactant used across personal care and industrial processing. It delivers foaming, emulsification, and detergency in formulations where mildness and lather performance are both required.

In personal care manufacturing, it functions as the primary surfactant in shampoos, body washes, and liquid cleansers. It produces stable, dense foam with lower irritation potential than non-ethoxylated sulfates, making it ideal for sensitive skin applications.

Textile processors use it as a scouring and wetting agent to remove oils, sizing agents, and contaminants from fiber prior to dyeing or finishing. This ensures that the subsequent chemical treatments are absorbed evenly across the material surface.

In leather processing, it supports degreasing baths where consistent emulsification of natural fats is critical to hide preparation. This step is essential for achieving the desired texture and durability in the final leather product.

Paper industry applications include pulp wetting and surface treatment formulations where uniform dispersion is required. The surfactant helps manage the surface tension of the pulp, leading to more consistent paper quality and strength.

Sodium laureth-2 sulfate is typically supplied as a liquid or paste, with active matter concentrations commonly ranging from 25% to 70%. Both cosmetic-grade and technical-grade material are available for various industrial needs.

Cosmetic grades meet specifications relevant to personal care manufacturing, ensuring high purity and safety standards. Drum and IBC packaging are standard for industrial volumes, allowing for efficient transport and storage at production facilities.
