Magnesium trisilicate
Description
Magnesium trisilicate (CAS 14987-04-3) is an inorganic magnesium silicate compound used across pharmaceutical, food, and industrial manufacturing. It functions primarily as an antacid, anticaking agent, and adsorbent.
In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is used as an active antacid ingredient in tablet and suspension formulations. Here, it neutralizes excess gastric acid and adsorbs pepsin to provide relief for patients.
Food producers incorporate it as an anticaking agent in powdered and granulated products. This prevents clumping during processing and storage, ensuring a free-flowing consistency for the end consumer.
In polymer and plastics processing, it acts as a catalyst support and stabilizer. This improves thermal resistance and processing consistency in certain resin systems during high-temperature manufacturing cycles.
Refiners and chemical processors also use it as an adsorbent to remove impurities. It is particularly effective at removing pigments and free fatty acids from oils and various organic streams.
The material is supplied as a fine white powder in both hydrated and anhydrous grades. Pharmaceutical-grade material is available to USP, BP, and Ph. Eur. specifications for regulated drug products.
Food-grade supply is also established for anticaking applications in the global market. Technical-grade material is available for industrial and catalyst-related uses where high purity is required.
