Description

Methyl cocoate (CAS 61788-59-8), also sold as coconut oil methyl esters, is a mixture of fatty acid methyl esters derived from coconut oil. It functions as an emollient carrier, solvent, and lubricant across personal care, cleaning, and industrial applications.

In personal care formulations, it acts as a lightweight carrier and skin-conditioning agent in lotions, serums, and hair care products. It is valued for delivering active ingredients without leaving a heavy residue on the skin or hair.

Cleaning product formulators use it as a bio-based solvent and emulsifier in degreasers and hard surface cleaners. It is an effective alternative in industrial detergents where petroleum-derived solvents are being replaced by sustainable options.

In metalworking and industrial lubrication, it serves as a base fluid or additive in cutting fluids and release agents. It provides necessary lubricity while meeting strict environmental biodegradability requirements for modern industrial operations.

Its ester composition also makes it a reactive intermediate in the production of surfactants such as methyl ester sulfonates. This versatility allows it to be used as a building block for various chemical derivatives.

Methyl cocoate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial and cleaning applications, while cosmetic-grade material is available for specialized personal care use.

Bulk supply is typical in drums and IBC totes, with tanker quantities available from larger producers. The material should be stored in a cool, dry place to maintain its chemical stability and performance characteristics over time.
