Description

Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate (CAS 68439-57-6), commonly known as AOS, is an anionic surfactant derived from the sulfonation of alpha-olefins. It delivers strong foaming, detergency, and emulsification performance across personal care and industrial cleaning formulations.

In personal care, AOS is a primary surfactant in shampoos, body washes, and liquid hand soaps, where it generates dense, stable foam even in hard water conditions. Home care formulators use it in dishwashing liquids and laundry detergents.

It serves as a cost-effective alternative or co-surfactant to SLES in surface cleaners. Textile processing operations rely on AOS for scouring and wetting applications, where it removes oils and sizing agents from fabric prior to dyeing.

Industrial and institutional cleaning products incorporate it for its tolerance to high-electrolyte environments. It maintains excellent compatibility with a broad range of co-surfactants and remains stable across various pH levels.

Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate is supplied as an aqueous liquid, typically at 35–40% active content. It is also available as a powder or needle form at 90–93% active content for specific manufacturing requirements.

Liquid grades are standard for direct formulation use, while powder grades suit solid bar formulations and concentrated products. Both food-contact-safe and standard technical grades are available depending on the intended application.

The material is manufactured to meet rigorous industry specifications, including USP and FCC standards where applicable. This ensures high purity and consistent performance for global chemical distribution and manufacturing.
