Manganese
Description
Manganese (CAS 7439-96-5), abbreviated Mn and commercially known under the trade name Cutaval, is a transition metal supplied in refined elemental form for industrial and specialty applications.
It functions primarily as an alloying agent, catalyst precursor, and micronutrient source across metallurgical, agricultural, and chemical manufacturing sectors. In steelmaking and alloy production, Mn is added to control sulfur content.
This process improves hardness, making it indispensable in producing structural steel, stainless steel, and high-strength alloys. Agricultural feed and fertilizer formulators use manganese as a micronutrient additive.
These additives correct soil and animal deficiencies that affect crop yield and livestock health. Water treatment operations deploy manganese-based systems to oxidize dissolved iron and control biological fouling.
This application is critical in municipal and industrial water supplies. In personal care and pigment manufacturing, it serves as a colorant precursor and catalyst component in oxidative formulations.
Manganese is supplied as metal flakes, powder, and briquettes, with purity grades typically ranging from technical to high-purity electrolytic grades. Electrolytic manganese metal is the most traded form.
This refined material meets specifications required for steel and battery-grade applications. Feed and agricultural grades are available as elemental powder conforming to recognized nutritional and quality standards.
