Description

Trioctylamine (CAS 1116-76-3), also known as TOA or tri-n-caprylylamine, is a long-chain tertiary amine used across extraction, catalysis, and surface modification processes. Its high selectivity for acidic species makes it a preferred extractant in hydrometallurgical and chemical purification operations. In solvent extraction, TOA selectively recovers acids and rare earth metals.

It is also used for valuable intermediates from aqueous process streams, making it a standard reagent in metal refining and pharmaceutical purification. Polymer and coating formulators incorporate it as a catalyst. It is used in curing systems, particularly where controlled reactivity and compatibility with organic matrices are required. In personal care and cosmetic formulations, TOA functions as an emulsifier and pH modifier.

It supports stable dispersion of active ingredients across oil-and-water systems. It also serves as a phase-transfer catalyst and surface modifier in adhesive and sealant manufacturing, improving substrate wetting. Trioctylamine is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. Standard commercial grades include technical-grade material, with purity levels typically ranging from 95% to 99%+ for demanding applications.

Packaging options are commonly available in drum and IBC quantities to support both laboratory-scale evaluation and bulk industrial procurement for various manufacturing sectors.
