Lauryl laurate
Description
Lauryl laurate (CAS 13945-76-1), also known as dodecyl dodecanoate, is a fatty acid ester derived from lauric acid and lauryl alcohol. It functions as a plasticizer, lubricant, and emollient carrier across personal care, polymer, and industrial lubrication applications.
In personal care formulations, it acts as a skin-conditioning carrier and emollient, improving spreadability and texture in creams, serums, and color cosmetics. Polymer processors use it as a plasticizer and internal lubricant to reduce melt viscosity.
This ester helps improve processing flow in PVC and similar thermoplastic compounds. In metalworking and industrial lubricant formulations, it contributes lubricity and acts as a base fluid or functional additive in cutting oils and release agents.
It also serves as a solvent and dispersing medium for active ingredients, pigments, and waxes in both cosmetic and specialty industrial formulations. Lauryl laurate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid at ambient temperatures.
It is available in technical and cosmetic grades, with cosmetic-grade material meeting purity standards relevant to personal care manufacturing. Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers for industrial use.
Cosmetic-grade lots are typically accompanied by relevant documentation for formulation compliance. This ensures the material meets the necessary safety and quality requirements for high-end consumer product manufacturing and distribution.
