Isopropyl laurate
Description
Isopropyl laurate (CAS 10233-13-3) is a synthetic ester of isopropyl alcohol and lauric acid used as an emollient, solvent, and carrier across personal care, pharmaceutical, and food applications.
It delivers a lightweight, non-greasy skin feel that makes it a preferred alternative to heavier oils in topical formulations. In cosmetics and personal care, it functions as an emollient and spreading agent.
It is commonly used in lotions, creams, and color cosmetics, improving texture and skin absorption of active ingredients. Pharmaceutical formulators use it as a carrier solvent in topical drug delivery systems.
Its skin-penetration-enhancing properties support consistent active ingredient release. In food-grade applications, it serves as a plasticizer and carrier for flavors and coatings, particularly where a low-viscosity ester is required.
It also appears in industrial formulations as a solvent for resins and waxes where a biodegradable, low-toxicity alternative to conventional solvents is preferred. Isopropyl laurate is supplied as a clear liquid.
It is available in cosmetic-grade and pharmaceutical-grade specifications, with food-grade material meeting FCC standards for relevant applications. Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers.
Technical-grade material is also available for non-cosmetic industrial uses. This versatile ester provides high stability and excellent compatibility with a wide range of lipophilic ingredients in various formulations.
