Isopropyl oleate
Description
Isopropyl oleate (CAS 112-11-8) is an ester of oleic acid and isopropyl alcohol used across personal care and industrial formulations as an emollient, solvent carrier, and lubricant base.
Its low viscosity and good solvency for oils and actives make it a practical choice for formulators and industrial buyers sourcing functional esters. In personal care, it functions as a skin-conditioning emollient.
It is used in creams, lotions, and hair oils, improving spreadability and active ingredient delivery. Metalworking and industrial lubricant formulators incorporate it as a base fluid or co-solvent in cutting fluids.
It is also utilized in rust preventatives and release agents where bio-based ester chemistry is preferred. It acts as a plasticizer and softening agent in specialty coatings and polymer formulations.
These applications often require flexible, non-migrating additives. As a solvent carrier, it dissolves lipophilic actives and pigment dispersions in cosmetic and industrial coating applications where mineral oil alternatives are needed.
The product is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid in drum and IBC quantities. Technical grade is the standard offering for industrial and lubricant applications, while cosmetic-grade material is also available.
Material meeting specific purity specifications is available for personal care use. Bulk availability varies by supplier, and buyers should confirm acid value and iodine value specifications against their requirements.
