Description

3-Chloropropyltriethoxysilane (CAS 2530-87-2), also supplied as (3-chloropropyl)trimethoxysilane, is an organosilane coupling agent used to chemically bridge inorganic substrates and organic polymer matrices. The reactive chloropropyl group serves as a precursor for further functionalization, enabling manufacturers to tailor surface chemistry for specific bonding or crosslinking requirements.

In coatings, adhesives, and sealant systems, it improves adhesion to glass, metal, and mineral fillers by creating covalent bonds at the interface. This enhances the overall durability of the bond. Electronics manufacturers use it to treat substrate surfaces and encapsulant formulations where moisture resistance and dielectric stability are procurement priorities for high-performance components.

In plastics and polymer compounding, it functions as a coupling agent for silica and glass fiber reinforcements, improving mechanical performance and structural integrity of the finished composite. Textile and leather finishing operations apply it to modify fiber surfaces, enhancing compatibility with functional coatings and improving the long-term durability of the treated materials.

Supplied as a clear liquid in standard packaging ranging from drums to IBC containers. Both the ethoxy and methoxy variants are commercially available to meet specific industrial needs. The methoxy form offers faster hydrolysis rates relevant to certain cure-speed requirements. Technical grade is the standard market offering, with purity specifications typically at 97% or higher.
