Isobutyltriethoxysilane

Isobutyltriethoxysilane (CAS 17980-47-1) is an alkylalkoxysilane used to impart hydrophobicity and improve adhesion at mineral and inorganic surfaces. It functions as a surface modifier and coupling agent across construction materials, coatings, and polymer systems.

In concrete and masonry protection, it penetrates porous substrates and bonds covalently to silicate surfaces. This process reduces water ingress without altering appearance, which is a key requirement for facade and infrastructure treatments.

Coatings formulators incorporate it as an adhesion promoter to improve bonding between organic binders and glass, metal, or mineral fillers. In sealant and elastomer systems, it acts as a crosslinker or co-crosslinker.

This chemical contributes to network formation and improves substrate adhesion in silicone and hybrid formulations. Plastics compounders use it to surface-treat mineral fillers such as silica or calcium carbonate.

Treating these fillers improves dispersion and mechanical performance in the final compound. Isobutyltriethoxysilane is supplied as a clear liquid, typically in drum and IBC quantities for industrial buyers.

It is available in technical grade, with purity specifications commonly at 97% or higher. Specialty grades meeting tighter purity thresholds are available for demanding coating and sealant applications.
