3-Butenyltriethoxysilane
Description
3-Butenyltriethoxysilane (CAS 57813-67-9) is an organosilane coupling agent carrying a terminal vinyl group that enables covalent bonding between inorganic substrates and organic polymer matrices.
It functions as a bifunctional bridge in composite systems, anchoring mineral surfaces to polymer networks during compounding and curing processes. In rubber and tire manufacturing, it bonds silica fillers to elastomer chains.
This process occurs during vulcanization, improving reinforcement efficiency and reducing rolling resistance. Electronics manufacturers apply it as a surface primer on glass and ceramic substrates to promote adhesion.
It is frequently used for encapsulants and conformal coatings. In plastics compounding, it modifies mineral filler surfaces, including silica and glass fiber, to improve dispersion and interfacial strength in various systems.
This applies to both thermoplastic and thermoset systems. The terminal alkene also supports co-polymerization and cross-linking reactions in specialty silicone formulations and UV-curable systems for industrial use.
3-Butenyltriethoxysilane is supplied as a liquid, typically in drums or intermediate bulk containers for industrial volumes. Smaller quantities are also available for R&D use and laboratory testing.
Technical grade is the standard commercial offering for most industrial applications. Purity specifications typically range from 97% upward, with high-purity grades available for sensitive electronic applications.
These high-purity options are also suitable for specialty polymer applications. The material must be handled according to standard chemical safety protocols to ensure stability and performance in the final product.
