Vinyltriacetoxysilane
Description
Vinyltriacetoxysilane (CAS 4130-08-9) is an acetoxy-functional silane coupling agent used to improve adhesion and compatibility between inorganic substrates and organic polymer systems. It releases acetic acid upon hydrolysis, enabling reactive bonding at mineral surfaces while introducing a vinyl group for further polymerization or crosslinking applications.
In sealants and adhesives, it acts as a crosslinker and adhesion promoter for silicone-based formulations applied to glass, metal, and concrete substrates for industrial use. Coatings manufacturers use it to improve substrate wetting and film adhesion on difficult surfaces, particularly in automotive and industrial protective coatings and finishes.
In polymer compounding, the vinyl functionality allows grafting onto polyethylene and other polyolefins, improving filler dispersion and overall mechanical performance of the material. Electronics applications include encapsulants and potting compounds where reliable bonding to housing materials and circuit substrates is critical for long-term component protection.
Vinyltriacetoxysilane is supplied as a clear liquid, typically in drums and IBC containers. Technical grade is the standard offering, with purity specifications commonly at 97% or higher. Packaging options and concentration variants may be available depending on supplier, with storage requirements aligned to moisture-sensitive silane handling and safety protocols.
