Description

Butyl acrylate-styrene copolymer (CAS 25767-47-9) is a synthetic resin produced by copolymerizing butyl acrylate with styrene to deliver a controlled balance of flexibility and hardness in polymer systems.

It functions primarily as a film-forming binder and rheology modifier across coatings, adhesives, and packaging applications. In architectural and industrial coatings, it serves as the primary binder.

It is used in water-based and solvent-borne formulations, controlling film hardness, gloss, and outdoor durability. Pressure-sensitive adhesives and laminating adhesives rely on this copolymer to tune tack.

It allows for the adjustment of peel strength without compromising cohesive integrity. In printing inks and overprint varnishes, it provides adhesion to difficult substrates including films and foils.

The resin supports fast drying in various printing applications. Sealant and elastomeric compound formulators use it to adjust elongation and cross-link density when combined with curing agents.

Butyl acrylate-styrene copolymer is supplied as aqueous emulsions and as solvent-borne resin solutions. The solids content typically ranges from 40% to 60% in standard emulsion form.

Technical and industrial grades are the standard commercial offering for this material. Specific grades vary by molecular weight distribution, glass transition temperature, and monomer ratio.

These parameters are critical for buyers to confirm against formulation targets when sourcing. Proper selection ensures the desired performance in the final chemical application or product.
