Butyl acrylate (CAS 141-32-2), or BA, is a reactive acrylic monomer used as a building block in polymer synthesis.
Where is Butyl acrylate used?
- Adhesives and pressure-sensitive labels: copolymerized with other acrylates to control tack and peel strength
- Coatings: emulsion polymers for architectural and industrial paints, contributing film flexibility at low temperatures
- Sealants and elastomers: BA-based copolymers for weather-resistant joints in construction and automotive assembly
- At high purity it also functions as a flavoring agent in food and fragrance applications.
Good to know: High-purity grades are used for flavor and cosmetic applications; technical grade is the standard for industrial polymerization. Commonly stabilized with MEHQ polymerization inhibitor.
