Butyl acrylate
Description
Butyl acrylate (CAS 141-32-2), commonly abbreviated as BA, is a reactive acrylic monomer used as a foundational building block in polymer synthesis. It enables formulators to tune the flexibility, adhesion, and film-forming characteristics of the final polymer across a broad range of industrial end products.
In adhesives and pressure-sensitive labels, BA is copolymerized with other acrylates to control tack and peel strength. Coatings manufacturers incorporate it into emulsion polymers for architectural and industrial paints, where it contributes to film flexibility at low temperatures.
Sealant and elastomer producers use BA-based copolymers to achieve durable, weather-resistant joints in construction and automotive assembly. At high purity levels, it also functions as a flavoring agent in food and fragrance applications, where trace concentrations deliver fruity, pineapple-like notes.
Butyl acrylate is supplied as a clear liquid, typically in drum, IBC, and bulk tanker quantities. Technical grade is the standard for industrial polymerization, while high-purity grades are available for flavor and cosmetic applications.
Product is commonly stabilized with a polymerization inhibitor (MEHQ) for safe transport and storage. This ensures the material remains stable during transit and throughout its shelf life in warehouse environments.
Our material meets rigorous industry specifications to ensure consistent performance in sensitive chemical reactions. We provide comprehensive documentation including certificates of analysis and safety data sheets for every shipment delivered to your facility.
