Description

N-butylbenzenesulfonamide (CAS 3622-84-2), commercially known as BBSA, Plastomoll BMB, and Dellatol BBS, is a sulfonamide-based plasticizer used across polymer processing and personal care manufacturing. It functions as a low-volatility softening agent that improves flexibility and processability in demanding formulations. BBSA is primarily used to plasticize polyamide resins, where it reduces melt viscosity.

It improves flexibility in extruded and injection-molded parts such as films, fibers, and engineering components. In hot-melt adhesives and coatings, it acts as a reactive or non-reactive plasticizer. This chemical helps to control flow and adhesion properties in various industrial settings. Personal care formulators incorporate it into nail lacquers and film-forming systems to enhance flexibility.

It improves the wear resistance of the dried film in cosmetic applications. It also functions as a catalyst or co-catalyst in certain polyurethane and resin cure systems for manufacturing. The sulfonamide group participates in the reaction network to ensure stability. BBSA is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid and is available in technical grade for industrial polymer applications.

Select suppliers offer purity specifications suited to personal care end uses. Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers to meet the high volume demands of global chemical manufacturing.
