2-(tert-butylaminothio)benzothiazole
Description
2-(tert-Butylaminothio)benzothiazole (CAS 95-31-8), commercially known as TBBS, is a delayed-action sulfenamide accelerator used in the rubber vulcanization industry.
It controls the rate and onset of crosslinking during rubber processing, giving manufacturers a reliable processing safety window before cure begins.
TBBS is the accelerator of choice in tire manufacturing, where it is used in tread compounds, sidewalls, and carcass plies to deliver consistent cure rates and mechanical performance.
In industrial rubber goods, including conveyor belts, seals, hoses, and gaskets, it enables processors to balance scorch safety with efficient vulcanization at production temperatures.
It performs effectively in natural rubber, SBR, and blended systems, often combined with secondary accelerators such as DPG or TMTD to fine-tune cure profiles.
Footwear and technical molded rubber components also rely on TBBS where dimensional accuracy and surface quality depend on controlled crosslink density.
TBBS is supplied as an off-white to pale yellow powder or granules, with granular form preferred in automated dosing and mixing operations to reduce dust exposure.
Standard commercial grades meet specifications set by major rubber industry quality frameworks, including purity benchmarks typically at 95% minimum active content.
