Neodecanoic acid
Description
Neodecanoic acid (CAS 26896-20-8), also sold under the trade names Wiltz 65 and Topper 5E, is a highly branched C10 synthetic carboxylic acid used across coatings, lubricants, and polymer systems.
Its branched structure drives performance in metal salt synthesis, surface treatment, and corrosion protection applications. In coatings, it is reacted with metal oxides to produce metal neodecanoates.
These driers and catalysts are used in alkyd and industrial coating formulations. Lubricant and metalworking fluid manufacturers use it as a corrosion inhibitor and as a building block for synthetic ester base fluids.
These fluids provide strong oxidative stability in demanding environments. In plastics and polymer processing, it functions as a surface modifier and compatibilizer, improving adhesion between dissimilar substrates.
This is particularly useful in adhesive and sealant systems. It is also used to produce neodecanoate metal soaps applied as stabilizers and crosslinking agents in elastomer compounding for industrial use.
The product is supplied as a clear liquid in drum and IBC quantities, with bulk tanker options available for high-volume buyers. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification.
Purity levels and acid value specifications vary by supplier, so buyers should confirm these against their formulation requirements. Proper storage in a cool, dry area is recommended to maintain product integrity.
