Description

Barium carbonate (CAS 513-77-9), also known as Witherite, is an inorganic barium salt used across ceramics, electronics, and specialty chemical manufacturing. It functions primarily as a barium source in high-temperature sintering processes.

This versatile compound acts as a flux modifier, pH regulator, and catalyst precursor across multiple industrial sectors. In ceramic and tile manufacturing, it neutralizes soluble sulfates in clay bodies, preventing surface efflorescence in fired products.

Electronics producers use it as a raw material for barium titanate synthesis, a key dielectric compound in capacitors and piezoelectric components. In glass and specialty optical formulations, it modifies refractive index and improves durability.

Metallurgical applications include its use as a flux and surface hardening agent in steel case-hardening salt baths. Barium carbonate is supplied as a white powder in fine and coarse particle grades suited to different processing requirements.

Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity levels typically ranging from 98% to 99.5% depending on the intended application. Bulk packaging in bags or big bags is standard for industrial distribution.

Specifications are often aligned to ceramic or electronic-grade quality requirements set by individual industry standards. The material must be handled according to safety protocols due to its chemical properties and industrial utility.
