Pigment Red 48
Description
Pigment Red 48 (CAS 7023-61-2), commercially designated PR48:2, is an azo-based calcium lake pigment delivering strong, bluish-red hues across a broad range of industrial substrates.
It is produced as a metal salt complex that provides good tinctorial strength and resistance properties suited to demanding coloration applications in various manufacturing sectors.
In printing inks, particularly offset, flexographic, and publication gravure, PR48:2 is valued for its clean masstone and acceptable lightfastness in short-run and packaging formats.
Plastic coloration of polyolefins and PVC uses this pigment to achieve consistent red shades in consumer goods, films, and molded components across the global supply chain.
Coatings formulators incorporate it into decorative and industrial paints where a cost-effective, bright red with reasonable alkali resistance is required for long-term stability.
Paper dyeing and textile printing operations also draw on PR48:2 for surface coloration where substrate penetration is limited and surface deposit is the primary mechanism.
Pigment Red 48 is supplied as a dry powder, typically in press cake form or as a flushed paste for direct ink incorporation into existing production lines and workflows.
Standard commercial grades are differentiated by particle size and oil absorption. Technical-grade material is the predominant market form for industrial use cases.
