Description

Sodium metaphosphate (CAS 10361-03-2) is an inorganic phosphate salt available in several polymeric forms, including Kurrol's salt and Maddrell's salt. Each form features distinct chain lengths and solubility profiles relevant to industrial sourcing decisions.

It functions primarily as a sequestrant, buffering agent, and scale inhibitor across a range of process industries. In water treatment, it controls scale formation and corrosion in cooling towers and municipal distribution systems.

The compound works by sequestering calcium and magnesium ions to prevent buildup. Food and beverage manufacturers use it as a pH buffer and preservative in processed products, where it also improves moisture retention in meat and dairy applications.

Textile and leather processors apply it to sequester hardness ions in dyebaths and tanning liquors. This prevents mineral interference that degrades color consistency and finish quality during the manufacturing process.

In paper manufacturing, it supports pulp processing by controlling metal ion contamination. Without this control, metal ions would otherwise affect bleaching efficiency and the final brightness of the paper product.

Sodium metaphosphate is supplied as a white powder or granules depending on the polymeric form and intended application. Food-grade material is available to FCC specification for use in regulated industries.

Technical-grade product is supplied for industrial water treatment and various process applications. Grades vary by chain length and solubility, so buyers should confirm the specific polymerization form when sourcing.
