Magnesium nitrate
Description
Magnesium nitrate (CAS 10377-60-3), also known commercially as Magniosan, is an inorganic salt supplying both magnesium and nitrate ions in a single, highly soluble compound. It functions primarily as a nutrient source in fertilizer systems and as a process chemical across water treatment and industrial manufacturing.
In agriculture, it is used in liquid fertilizer blends and foliar spray formulations where simultaneous delivery of magnesium and nitrate nitrogen corrects soil deficiencies and supports crop yield. Water treatment operations use it as a pH buffering agent and process additive.
These systems require controlled alkalinity without introducing chloride or sulfate ions. In textile and leather processing, it acts as a fixative and auxiliary chemical during dyeing and tanning operations, helping to stabilize process chemistry and improve consistency.
Paper manufacturing incorporates it as a process aid where controlled ionic balance is required during pulp treatment. Magnesium nitrate is available as a crystalline solid and in solution form, with hexahydrate being the predominant commercial grade.
Technical grade is standard across industrial applications, while fertilizer-grade material meeting specific nutrient content specifications is available for agricultural use. Packaging ranges from bulk quantities to bagged formats suited to both industrial and agricultural procurement channels.
