1,4-dichlorobenzene
Description
1,4-Dichlorobenzene (CAS 106-46-7), commonly sourced as PDCB or para-dichlorobenzene, is an aromatic chlorinated compound used industrially as a biocide, chemical intermediate, and moth-repellent active.
Its controlled sublimation profile makes it effective in slow-release preservation and fumigant applications without liquid handling. In textile and leather processing, PDCB acts as a moth-proofing agent.
It protects stored wool, fur, and natural fiber goods during warehousing and transit. It functions as a key intermediate in the synthesis of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), a high-performance engineering polymer.
This polymer is used in automotive and electrical components. In printing and packaging, it contributes to specialty solvent formulations and carrier systems for pigment dispersion in various industrial processes.
PDCB also serves as a chemical building block in flame retardant production, where chlorinated aromatic structures are incorporated into polymer matrices to meet specific fire resistance requirements.
1,4-Dichlorobenzene is supplied as white crystalline flakes or compressed solid forms such as cakes and blocks, depending on the end application. Technical grade is the standard commercial offering.
Purity levels are typically at 99% or higher for industrial use. Bulk supply is available in fiber drums or bags, with smaller packaged formats offered for specialty or consumer-adjacent end uses.
