2-(2-Hydroxypropoxy)-1-propanol
Description
2-(2-Hydroxypropoxy)-1-propanol (CAS 106-62-7), commonly known as dipropylene glycol, is a diol solvent and humectant used across cleaning, coatings, and personal care manufacturing.
Its low volatility and miscibility with water and organic solvents make it a practical carrier and coupling agent in formulated products. In home care and industrial cleaning, it functions as a coupling solvent.
This material keeps surfactant-based formulations stable and improves soil removal in hard-surface cleaners. Coatings and adhesives manufacturers use it as a coalescing aid and plasticizing solvent.
It helps to improve film formation and flexibility in waterborne systems. Personal care formulators incorporate it as a humectant and solvent carrier in lotions, serums, and fragrance bases.
It is ideal for applications where controlled moisture retention is required. In polymer processing, it acts as a reactive intermediate or plasticizer in polyurethane and polyester resin systems.
The product is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid in drum, IBC, and bulk tanker quantities. Standard commercial grades include industrial and fragrance-grade specifications for various uses.
Fragrance grade meets purity requirements set by IFRA and major flavor and fragrance buyers. Technical grade is available for coatings and polymer applications where cosmetic-grade purity is not required.
