Dipropylene glycol dibenzoate
Description
Dipropylene glycol dibenzoate (CAS 27138-31-4), commonly abbreviated as DPGDB, is a benzoate ester plasticizer and coalescing solvent used across polymer-based formulations and industrial coatings. It functions as both a plasticizer and a rheology modifier, improving film formation, flow, and flexibility in finished products. In coatings and adhesives, DPGDB acts as a coalescing agent.
This chemical lowers the minimum film formation temperature, enabling uniform film development in waterborne systems. Adhesive and sealant formulators incorporate it to improve tack and flexibility. It also enhances substrate adhesion in pressure-sensitive and construction-grade products. In PVC and other polymer compounding, it functions as a secondary plasticizer that enhances processing.
This additive reduces brittleness in finished parts. Printing ink manufacturers use it as a solvent-carrier to control viscosity and improve pigment wetting across solvent-borne and UV-curable ink systems. Dipropylene glycol dibenzoate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. It is available in technical grade, the standard specification for industrial coatings, adhesives, and plastics applications.
Packaging typically ranges from drums to IBC totes, with bulk quantities available for large-scale industrial procurement. This versatile ester ensures high performance in diverse manufacturing sectors.
