Diisobutyl phthalate
Description
Diisobutyl phthalate (CAS 84-69-5), commonly known as DIBP and sold under trade names such as Palatinol IC and Kodaflex DIBP, is a phthalate ester plasticizer used across polymer processing, coatings, and personal care manufacturing. It functions primarily as a plasticizer and softening agent, improving flexibility and workability in a range of polymer systems and formulations. In PVC and vinyl compounding, DIBP imparts flexibility and reduces melt viscosity.
This makes it suitable for films, cables, and flexible profiles where processing efficiency matters. Printing inks and surface coatings use DIBP to control film formation and improve adhesion on substrates including paper and plastic packaging. In personal care formulations such as nail lacquers, it acts as a film-forming plasticizer that reduces brittleness and improves wear performance. Cellulose-based adhesives and sealants also incorporate DIBP to adjust tack and application time.
DIBP is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid in bulk quantities including IBC containers and road tankers, as well as in drums for smaller volume orders. It is available primarily in technical grade for industrial applications. Buyers should verify purity specifications and regional regulatory compliance, particularly given ongoing restrictions on phthalate plasticizers in certain end-use categories. Proper handling and storage are essential for maintaining product integrity.
