Diisononyl phthalate
Description
Diisononyl phthalate (CAS 68515-48-0), commonly abbreviated as DINP, is a high-molecular-weight phthalate plasticizer used primarily in PVC compounding. It improves flexibility and processability in rigid and semi-rigid polymer systems.
Also marketed under the designation 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C8-10-branched alkyl esters, C9-rich, it is a staple in industrial manufacturing. In PVC flooring and roofing membranes, it delivers durable flexibility across a wide service temperature range.
This performance is a key factor for building and construction specifications. Automotive interior components such as dashboards and door panels rely on DINP-plasticized PVC for long-term dimensional stability under heat cycling.
Underbody coatings and various vehicle parts benefit from its resistance to environmental stress. In wire and cable insulation, it supports the processing of high-fill compounds where low volatility is a procurement priority.
Migration resistance is another critical feature for electrical applications. Printing inks and coated packaging films also use this plasticizer to maintain film integrity and adhesion performance during the production process.
DINP is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid in bulk tankers, IBC containers, and drum quantities. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with product specifications typically aligned to international benchmarks.
Quality control measures ensure compliance with ISO and ASTM reference standards for phthalate plasticizers. Purity levels of 99%+ are standard across major supply channels for industrial chemical distribution.
