Diethylene glycol distearate
Description
Diethylene glycol distearate (CAS 109-30-8), also known commercially as Witconol CAD, is a diester of diethylene glycol and stearic acid used across personal care, textile, and polymer applications.
It functions as an emulsifier, rheology modifier, and plasticizer, helping formulators control texture, consistency, and surface properties in finished products. In personal care formulations, it builds pearlescent opacity.
It thickens creams, lotions, and shampoos without requiring additional thickening agents. Textile and leather processors use it as a softening and lubricating agent, improving hand feel and reducing fiber-to-fiber friction.
In plastics compounding, it acts as an internal plasticizer and processing aid, improving flow and reducing brittleness in polymer blends. Paper and coating applications rely on it for surface conditioning.
It also serves as a dispersing aid in pigment-loaded formulations. Diethylene glycol distearate is supplied as a white to off-white waxy solid, typically in flake or pastille form for ease of handling.
It is available in cosmetic-grade and technical-grade specifications to meet the purity requirements of personal care versus industrial end uses. Packaging options commonly include bags and fiber drums.
