Description

Glyceryl distearate (CAS 504-40-5), also known as Glyceryl 1,3-distearate, is a diester of glycerol and stearic acid used across pharmaceutical, food, and personal care manufacturing.

It functions as an emulsifier, rheology modifier, and softening agent in solid and semi-solid formulations. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it acts as a lipid-based excipient for controlled-release solid dosage forms.

It is frequently utilized in matrix tablets, where it regulates drug release profiles. Personal care formulators use it to build viscosity and improve texture in creams, lotions, and stick formulations.

In food applications, it functions as an emulsifier to stabilize fat-based systems such as margarines, shortenings, and confectionery coatings. It provides excellent stability and texture to these products.

As a plasticizer in film coatings and waxy matrices, it improves flexibility and processability during manufacturing. This makes it a versatile component for various industrial coating processes.

Glyceryl distearate is supplied as a white to off-white powder, flakes, or waxy solid. Pharmaceutical-grade material is available to USP and Ph. Eur. specifications, supporting use in regulated drug products.

Food-grade supply is also available for applications requiring compliance with food additive standards. This ensures the material meets the necessary safety and purity requirements for global distribution.
