Glycol monobutyl ether acetate
Description
Glycol monobutyl ether acetate (CAS 112-07-2), also known as 2-butoxyethyl acetate and commonly abbreviated as EGBEA, is a slow-evaporating ester solvent used across coatings and specialty formulations. Its controlled evaporation rate supports film formation and flow in high-solids and waterborne systems. In architectural and industrial coatings, EGBEA functions as a coalescing and flow-control solvent.
It improves leveling and reduces surface defects in alkyd, epoxy, and polyurethane finishes. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers incorporate it to adjust open time and enhance substrate wetting in formulations. In printing inks, it supports pigment dispersion and controls drying speed across gravure and screen printing processes. Personal care formulators use it as a carrier solvent in nail lacquers.
It is particularly useful in surface-treatment products where slow evaporation is commercially desirable. EGBEA is supplied as a clear liquid in drum and IBC quantities for industrial buyers. Bulk tanker options are available for high-volume requirements. It is predominantly traded at technical grade, with purity specifications typically reaching 99% or above for standard use.
Solvent-grade product is the standard commercial offering for most applications. Documentation packages generally include COA and standard regulatory compliance data for quality assurance.
