Benzyl salicylate
Description
Benzyl salicylate (CAS 118-58-1), also recognized under FEMA 2151, is an ester used across fragrance, cosmetic, and coating formulations. It functions primarily as a UV absorber and fixative. This chemical extends the stability of light-sensitive ingredients while contributing a mild, balsamic scent character. In personal care and cosmetics, it is incorporated into sunscreens, lotions, and hair products.
It works to absorb UV radiation and protect both the formula and the end user's skin from photodegradation. Fragrance formulators use it as a fixative that slows the evaporation of top notes. This improves the longevity of fine fragrances and functional perfumery in soaps and detergents. Coating and adhesive manufacturers add it to UV-stabilized systems where degradation must be controlled.
In these systems, light-induced degradation of the binder or colorant is mitigated. In printing inks and packaging coatings, it supports color retention and formula stability under prolonged light exposure. Benzyl salicylate is supplied as a clear, pale liquid in drum and IBC quantities. Standard grades include cosmetic and fragrance-grade material meeting IFRA and industry purity specifications.
Technical-grade material is also available for industrial coating and ink applications. Our supply chain ensures consistent quality and availability for large-scale manufacturing requirements across various sectors.
