Description

Aluminium silicate (CAS 12141-46-7), also designated E559 in food and pharmaceutical contexts, is a naturally derived inorganic mineral used industrially as a functional filler and rheology modifier.

It controls flow behavior, improves dimensional stability, and enhances surface properties across a range of solid and coating applications. In rubber and tire manufacturing, it acts as a reinforcing filler.

This material improves compound stiffness and processing consistency without the cost premium of specialty silicas. Paper producers incorporate it as a coating pigment to improve printability and brightness.

It also enhances ink receptivity in coated paper grades. Plastics compounders use it to adjust melt viscosity and reduce shrinkage in filled polymer systems, particularly in polypropylene and polyethylene formulations.

Building and construction applications include its use as an extender in paints, sealants, and cementitious coatings. In these settings, it contributes to opacity and reduces raw material costs effectively.

Aluminium silicate is supplied as a fine white powder, with particle size distribution being a key specification variable. Standard grades include technical, food-grade, and pharmaceutical-grade material.

The product is available meeting USP or Ph. Eur. requirements for sensitive applications. Calcined and surface-treated variants are also commercially available to meet specific surface area requirements.
