Hydrated silica
Description
Hydrated silica (CAS 10279-57-9), also known as silicon dioxide hydrate, is an amorphous, water-containing form of silica produced through controlled precipitation processes.
It functions as a functional filler, rheology modifier, and surface-active agent across a broad range of industrial and consumer product applications. In oral care, it is the primary abrasive agent.
In toothpaste formulations, particle size and hardness are tightly controlled to meet RDA specifications. Rubber and tire manufacturers incorporate it as a reinforcing filler to improve tread wear.
It is used in high-performance compounds to improve rolling resistance. In food processing, it acts as an anti-caking agent and flow aid in powdered ingredients, keeping bulk materials free-flowing.
Printing ink and coating formulators use it to control viscosity, matting, and surface texture in both solvent-based and water-based systems. It is supplied as a fine white powder.
Material is available in a range of particle sizes and surface area specifications. Food-grade material is available to FCC and E551 standards for various industrial requirements.
Personal care grades are produced to meet cosmetic-specific purity and RDA benchmarks. Technical and rubber-grade variants are also commercially available for specific manufacturing needs.
These variants are differentiated primarily by BET surface area and oil absorption values. The material ensures high performance across diverse chemical and industrial processing sectors.
