Silica Gel
Description
Silica Gel (CAS 112926-00-8) is a synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide used across industrial and consumer product manufacturing as a functional additive. Its high surface area and porous structure make it effective for controlling rheology and managing foam.
This material is essential for stabilizing formulations across a broad range of processing environments. In coatings and inks, it acts as a matting agent and anti-settling additive, controlling sheen levels and preventing pigment separation.
It is highly effective in both solvent-borne and waterborne systems. Rubber and tire compounders incorporate it as a reinforcing filler and processing aid, improving compound stability and extending the service life of finished elastomeric products.
Personal care formulators use it to adjust texture, control oil absorption, and improve the spreadability of creams, powders, and color cosmetics. It provides a smooth application and enhances the overall sensory profile of high-end cosmetic goods.
In adhesives, sealants, and polymer systems, it functions as a thixotropic agent and stabilizer. This prevents sagging in applied films and improves the shelf stability of packaged products during long-term storage and transport.
The product is supplied as a fine white powder in technical, food-grade, and cosmetic-grade specifications. Standard grades include FCC, USP, and Ph. Eur. compliant material to meet strict regulatory requirements.
Particle size and surface area vary by application requirement to ensure optimal performance. Bulk quantities are available in bags or supersacks, with precipitated grades being the most common form for industrial supply chains.
