Diethylhexyl sebacate
Description
Diethylhexyl sebacate (CAS 122-62-3), commonly abbreviated as DOS and also sold as bis(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, is a long-chain diester plasticizer and lubricant base fluid used across polymer processing.
Its low-temperature flexibility and compatibility with a broad range of polymers make it a preferred alternative to phthalate-based plasticizers in demanding industrial and personal care manufacturing applications.
In PVC and synthetic rubber compounding, DOS delivers exceptional cold-flexibility, making it the plasticizer of choice for wire insulation, automotive seals, and refrigeration gaskets that must perform at sub-zero temperatures.
Industrial lubricant formulators use it as a synthetic base fluid in compressor oils, grease formulations, and hydraulic fluids where thermal stability and low pour point are critical for performance.
In personal care, DOS functions as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent in creams, sunscreens, and color cosmetics, where it also reduces tackiness in finished formulations for better consumer experience.
Food-contact and indirect food applications utilize approved grades as a plasticizer in packaging films and gasket materials, ensuring safety and compliance with international regulatory standards for food safety.
DOS is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid in drum and IBC quantities, with bulk tanker options available for large-volume buyers. Standard commercial grades include technical and food-contact compliant specifications.
These grades meet FCC and FDA 21 CFR requirements. Purity typically ranges from 99% for high-performance lubricant and plasticizer applications requiring the highest level of chemical stability and consistency.
