Description

Dimethyloctadecylamine (CAS 124-28-7), also known commercially as Dimantine, is a long-chain tertiary amine used as a building block for cationic surfactants and corrosion inhibitors. Its C18 fatty chain structure makes it a preferred intermediate where controlled surface activity is required. This chemical is essential for quaternary ammonium compounds across industrial and personal care markets. In lubricants and metalworking fluids, it functions as a corrosion inhibitor and boundary lubricant additive, forming protective films on metal surfaces.

These films help to reduce wear and oxidation in heavy machinery. Quaternization of this amine yields fabric softeners, hair conditioning agents, and antistatic compounds used in various rinse-off and leave-on personal care formulations. It also serves as a flotation collector intermediate in mineral processing. In this application, its affinity for mineral surfaces improves ore separation efficiency, making it a vital component for mining operations and resource extraction.

Formulators in the coatings and asphalt industries use it to produce emulsifiers. These specialized emulsifiers improve the adhesion and dispersion of bituminous materials, ensuring better performance in road construction and industrial coatings. The product is supplied as a low-melting waxy solid or liquid at elevated temperatures, typically in flake or molten bulk form. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity levels commonly ranging from 95% to 99%.

It is available in drums, IBCs, and bulk tanker quantities depending on application volume requirements. This versatility in packaging ensures that both small-scale formulators and large industrial manufacturers can meet their specific production needs.
