Lauryldimethylamine
Description
Lauryldimethylamine (CAS 112-18-5), also known as LDMA, is a long-chain tertiary amine used as a chemical intermediate, emulsifier, and surface-active agent across industrial and personal care manufacturing.
Its C12 amine structure makes it a practical building block for producing quaternary ammonium compounds, amine oxides, and betaines. In personal care, LDMA serves as a precursor to conditioning surfactants.
It is frequently used in foam boosters for shampoos, conditioners, and liquid cleansers. Coatings and adhesives formulators use it as a curing catalyst for epoxy systems and as a wetting agent to improve substrate adhesion.
It also functions as a corrosion inhibitor and emulsification aid in industrial process fluids and metalworking formulations. Sealant and elastomer manufacturers incorporate it as a stabilizer to protect polymer systems.
This protection is vital during processing and storage. Lauryldimethylamine is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. Technical grade is the standard commercial form for most industrial applications.
Purity levels are typically at 95% or higher depending on the supplier specification. Bulk quantities are available in drums and IBC totes, with documentation commonly provided to support sourcing requirements.
These documents support industrial and cosmetic raw material sourcing standards. The material is handled according to standard chemical safety protocols to ensure stability and performance in diverse formulations.
