Sucrose benzoate

Sucrose benzoate (CAS 12738-64-6), also marketed as Uniplex 280, is a sucrose ester resin produced by esterifying sucrose with benzoic acid.

Where is Sucrose benzoate used?

• Polymer and coating systems: plasticizer and rheology modifier
• Coatings: improves film formation and modifies viscosity without significantly compromising hardness
• Adhesives: adjusts tack, flexibility, and open time in hot-melt and pressure-sensitive systems
• Printing inks: controls rheology and enhances resin compatibility, particularly in nitrocellulose and acrylic formulations
• In plastics compounding it acts as a secondary plasticizer or processing aid where compatibility with polar polymers is required.
