Sucrose benzoate
Description
Sucrose benzoate (CAS 12738-64-6), also marketed as Uniplex 280, is a sucrose ester resin produced by esterifying sucrose with benzoic acid. It functions as a plasticizer and rheology modifier in polymer and coating systems.
This chemical improves flow, flexibility, and compatibility with a range of resin matrices. In solvent-based and water-based coatings, it improves film formation and modifies viscosity without significantly compromising hardness.
Adhesive formulators incorporate it to adjust tack, flexibility, and open time in hot-melt and pressure-sensitive systems. It is used in printing inks to control rheology and enhance resin compatibility.
This is particularly effective in nitrocellulose and acrylic ink formulations. In plastics compounding, it acts as a secondary plasticizer or processing aid where compatibility with polar polymers is required.
The product is supplied as a pale, solid resin, typically in flake or lump form. It is available in technical grade, which is the standard specification for industrial coating, adhesive, and ink applications.
Packaging commonly ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk quantities depending on supplier and volume requirements. This versatile resin ensures consistent performance across various industrial manufacturing processes.
