Sucrose acetate isobutyrate
Description
Sucrose acetate isobutyrate (CAS 126-13-6), commercially known as SAIB or E444, is a food-grade ester derived from sucrose used primarily as a density-adjusting agent and emulsion stabilizer.
Its high viscosity and compatibility with flavor oils make it a functional ingredient in beverage and personal care manufacturing. In carbonated and non-carbonated beverages, SAIB acts as a weighting agent.
It is used for citrus and other flavor emulsions, preventing oil separation and maintaining a uniform appearance throughout shelf life. Beverage formulators use it alongside brominated vegetable oil alternatives.
This helps to meet clean-label and regulatory requirements in global markets. In personal care, it functions as a film-forming agent and fixative in hair sprays and styling products, contributing to hold and gloss.
Cosmetic formulators also incorporate it as a carrier solvent in fragrance and color cosmetic applications where controlled viscosity and low water solubility are procurement requirements for high-end manufacturing.
SAIB is supplied as a clear, viscous liquid in bulk and intermediate packaging formats suited to food and cosmetic manufacturing. It is available in food-grade quality compliant with EU regulations.
The material meets FCC standards for use in the United States. Technical-grade material is also available for non-food industrial applications, ensuring versatility across various chemical processing sectors.
