Lauryl hydroxysultaine
Description
Lauryl hydroxysultaine (CAS 13197-76-7), also supplied under trade names such as ORISTAR LHS and MACKAM LHS, is an amphoteric betaine-type surfactant derived from lauryl chemistry. It functions as a foam booster, viscosity modifier, and conditioning agent across personal care and industrial cleaning formulations. In shampoos, body washes, and liquid hand soaps, it enhances foam density.
The surfactant stabilizes lather while reducing the irritation potential of primary surfactant systems. Conditioning and antistatic properties make it a practical inclusion in hair care rinse-off products. This ingredient is particularly useful where mildness is a formulation requirement. In textile and leather processing, it supports emulsification and soil removal in scouring and degreasing baths.
Paper manufacturing operations use it to control foam and improve fiber dispersion in wet-end processing. This versatility makes it a staple in various industrial chemical applications. Lauryl hydroxysultaine is commercially available as an aqueous solution, typically at 30–50% active content. It is supplied in standard industrial grades suited for personal care and industrial applications.
Packaging options generally include drums and intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) for industrial volumes. This ensures safe and efficient transport for large-scale manufacturing needs.
