Cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine
Description
Cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine (CAS 68139-30-0) is an amphoteric surfactant derived from coconut oil, functioning across a broad pH range to deliver cleaning, foam stabilization, and conditioning performance.
It is used in both personal care and industrial cleaning formulations where compatibility with anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants is a formulation requirement for the chemist.
In shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers, it boosts foam density and improves the sensory feel of the rinse, often allowing formulators to reduce primary surfactant load effectively.
Hard surface cleaners and industrial degreasers use it to enhance soil suspension and maintain stable foam under high-electrolyte or low-pH conditions during the cleaning process.
In baby care and sensitive-skin products, its mildness profile supports formulations targeting low irritation benchmarks. Adhesive and sealant manufacturing incorporates it as an emulsifier.
It also acts as a wetting agent to improve substrate dispersion during compounding. Cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine is supplied as an aqueous solution, most commonly at 50% active content.
It is available in technical and cosmetic grades, with cosmetic-grade material conforming to standard purity requirements for personal care use. Packaging typically ranges from drums to IBC totes.
