Cocamidopropylamine Oxide
Description
Cocamidopropylamine Oxide (CAS 68155-09-9) is a coconut-derived amphoteric surfactant used primarily as a foam booster and viscosity modifier in rinse-off and leave-on formulations.
It performs across a wide pH range, making it a practical co-surfactant choice in both mildly acidic and alkaline systems. In shampoos, body washes, and liquid hand soaps, it boosts and stabilizes foam.
This surfactant improves the sensory feel of the finished product while household and industrial cleaners rely on it to enhance detergency. It maintains stable foam profiles in alkaline cleaning concentrates.
In hard surface and industrial degreasers, it supports emulsification of oils and soils, contributing to cleaning efficiency. This is achieved without requiring high active-matter levels in the formulation.
Coatings and adhesive formulations use it as a dispersing and wetting aid to improve substrate coverage and emulsion stability. It is commercially supplied as an aqueous solution, typically at 30% active content.
It is available in technical and cosmetic grades suited to industrial cleaning and personal care applications respectively. Bulk supply is standard in intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and drums.
Cosmetic-grade material commonly meets relevant industry purity benchmarks for safety and performance. This versatile chemical remains a staple for manufacturers seeking reliable foam and viscosity control.
