Description

Dioctyl fumarate (CAS 141-02-6), also known as bis(2-ethylhexyl) fumarate, is a difunctional ester monomer used as both a reactive building block in polymer synthesis and a plasticizing agent across several industrial sectors.

Its dual functionality makes it relevant to formulators working at the intersection of polymerization chemistry and end-product flexibility. In plastics and polymer manufacturing, it is incorporated as a copolymerizable monomer.

This material is used to modify the mechanical and thermal properties of acrylic, vinyl, and specialty polymer systems. Rubber compounders use it to improve flexibility and processing characteristics in elastomeric formulations.

It is particularly useful where reactive compatibility with the polymer matrix is required. In coatings, it contributes to film formation and flexibility when copolymerized with acrylates or other vinyl monomers.

This applies to both solvent-borne and UV-curable systems. Adhesive and sealant formulators source it as a reactive plasticizer where conventional non-reactive plasticizers would compromise bond integrity or long-term durability.

Dioctyl fumarate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. It is available primarily in technical grade, with purity specifications typically at 98% or higher depending on the specific supplier requirements.

Bulk liquid and intermediate packaging formats are standard for industrial procurement. This ensures efficient handling and integration into large-scale manufacturing processes for various chemical applications.
