Description

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) maleate (CAS 142-16-5), commonly known as dioctyl maleate or DOM, is a reactive ester monomer used across polymer and coating industries. It functions simultaneously as a copolymerizable building block and an internal plasticizer.

This dual functionality allows formulators to modify flexibility and processability directly within the polymer backbone rather than through post-blending. In acrylic and vinyl copolymer systems, DOM is incorporated to reduce glass transition temperature.

It improves film flexibility in coatings, pressure-sensitive adhesives, and sealants. Printing ink formulators use it as a reactive diluent that lowers viscosity during processing while becoming chemically bound into the final resin.

This chemical bonding avoids the migration issues associated with conventional solvents. In PVC and specialty elastomer compounding, it acts as a reactive plasticizer that resists extraction and improves long-term retention.

Adhesive manufacturers targeting demanding substrates also use DOM to tune tack and peel strength without sacrificing cohesive integrity. It is supplied as a clear liquid in drum and IBC quantities for industrial use.

Bulk tanker options are available for high-volume buyers. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification, with purity levels typically at 98% or above to ensure consistent performance in manufacturing.

Suppliers may offer material conforming to monomer-grade specifications where low color and controlled acid value are required. These standards are essential for high-quality polymerization applications and specialty resin production.
