Copper phthalocyanine

Copper phthalocyanine (CAS 147-14-8), commonly known as Phthalocyanine Blue BN or abbreviated as CuPc, is a synthetic organic pigment that delivers intense blue coloration across a broad range of industrial substrates.

It is one of the most commercially dominant blue pigments globally, valued for its exceptional lightfastness, heat stability, and resistance to migration in demanding applications.

In automotive OEM and refinish coatings, CuPc provides the deep, durable blue tones required to meet long-term exterior weathering standards. Printing ink manufacturers rely on it as the foundation of process cyan.

This pigment is essential in offset, flexographic, and gravure systems. Plastics compounders incorporate it into polyolefins, PVC, and engineering polymers where pigment migration and processing temperatures would disqualify less stable colorants.

Textile and paper dyeing operations use CuPc-based formulations to achieve consistent, wash-resistant blue shades on both fiber and surface-coated substrates. Copper phthalocyanine is supplied as a dry powder or presscake.

Particle size and surface treatment vary by intended application. Standard commercial designations include Pigment Blue 15 and its alpha and beta crystal form variants, which differ in shade and dispersibility.
