Description

Cerium 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS 24593-34-8), also supplied as cerium(III) tris(2-ethylhexanoate), is an organocerium salt used industrially as a catalyst and curing agent. It delivers cerium in an oil-soluble, organically compatible form, enabling its use across coating, polymer, and lubricant systems where inorganic cerium salts would be incompatible.

In coating formulations, it functions as a drier and oxidative cure promoter, accelerating cross-linking in alkyd and air-drying resin systems for industrial applications. Polymer producers use it as a polymerization catalyst and co-catalyst, particularly in processes requiring rare earth metal activation to achieve specific material properties.

In lubricant and metalworking fluid formulations, it acts as an additive precursor where controlled metal content supports performance at elevated temperatures and pressures. Sealant and elastomer manufacturers incorporate it to promote cross-linking and improve cure response in specialty rubber compounds used in demanding environments.

Cerium 2-ethylhexanoate is supplied as a liquid solution, typically in hydrocarbon or mineral spirit carriers, with cerium metal content expressed as a percentage by weight. Standard concentrations range from 6% to 12% cerium by weight. Technical-grade material is the primary specification, with purity confirmed by ICP analysis per buyer requirements.
