Zinc 2-ethylhexanoate

CAS
85203-81-2

Description

Zinc 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS 85203-81-2) is an organozinc carboxylate salt used across polymer processing, coatings, and rubber manufacturing as a catalyst, curing agent, and metal coordination component.

Its solubility in organic media makes it practical for liquid-phase formulation work where inorganic zinc sources are unsuitable. In PVC and polyurethane processing, it functions as a catalyst and stabilizer precursor.

This material supports controlled crosslinking and thermal stability in compounded formulations. Rubber and elastomer manufacturers use it as a curing co-agent, where it promotes vulcanization efficiency.

It improves network uniformity in sulfur-based systems. In coatings and alkyd resin systems, it acts as a drier or catalyst to accelerate oxidative crosslinking and film formation during the curing process.

Lubricant formulators incorporate it as a metal-containing additive to improve load-bearing performance. It helps reduce surface wear in metalworking fluids and other industrial lubricant applications.

Zinc 2-ethylhexanoate is supplied as a liquid or viscous solution, typically in hydrocarbon or mineral spirit carriers at defined zinc content concentrations for easy handling and dosing.

Technical grade is the standard commercial offering, with zinc assay specifications commonly used as the primary quality parameter for procurement. Bulk quantities are available in drums and IBCs.
