Zinc palmitostearate
Description
Zinc palmitostearate (CAS 91051-01-3), a zinc salt of mixed C16–C18 fatty acids, functions as an internal and external lubricant, plasticizer, and release agent in polymer and rubber processing.
It reduces friction between polymer chains and processing equipment surfaces, improving flow and preventing die buildup during compounding and extrusion. In PVC processing, it acts as an internal lubricant and stabilizer co-agent.
This material improves melt flow while supporting thermal stability in rigid and flexible formulations. Rubber compounders use it as a processing aid and mold release agent, reducing sticking during vulcanization.
It is essential for technical rubber goods and tire components. In thermoplastic systems such as polyolefins and engineering resins, it supports dispersion of fillers and pigments while reducing torque during extrusion.
Metalworking and industrial lubricant formulators incorporate it as a solid lubricant additive in greases and dry-film coatings. It is particularly effective where controlled friction reduction is required for performance.
Zinc palmitostearate is supplied as a fine white to off-white powder. Technical grade is the standard commercial form, with purity and fatty acid chain distribution specified according to application requirements.
Bulk supply is available in bags or supersacks, with particle size specifications offered for compounding applications. This ensures consistent performance across various industrial manufacturing and processing environments.
